Itching at Anus (Pruritus ani )

 Itching at Anus (Pruritus ani  ) is more of a problem in people who are overweight, sweat a lot, or wear tight-fitting underwear. This problem is more common in men than in women.

 The use of water  after stool is more common in our country, so the rate here was low. However, it is now common to use tissues or wipes instead of water in public places. As a result, its patients are increasing.

 If the itching persists and is not treated, it can take the form of a fungal infection. Due to this, the skin breaks down. So ensure timely treatment.

Precautions

Wash the anus thoroughly after passing stool.

If there is itching, avoid rubbing the anus forcefully. If there is excessive itching or dryness, use petroleum jelly or lotion.

Avoid using medicines, soaps, powders, scented sprays or deodorants without consulting a doctor.

* Wear loose fitting and cotton underwear.

If there is any discharge from the anus out of the ordinary, use a special pad or gauze pad as advised by the doctor. Keep changing it after some time.

Eat fiber-rich foods such as whole grains, seasonal fruits and vegetables, instead of spicy, fatty and greasy foods.

* Do not allow constipation.

Patients using antibiotics should include curd in their daily diet.
