What is Dietary Fiber?   Dietary fiber, also known as roughage or bulk, consists of the parts of plant foods that your body can’t digest or absorb. Unlike fats, proteins, or carbohydrates, which your body breaks down and absorbs, fiber remains relatively intact as it passes through your stomach, small intestine, and colon, eventually exiting your body. There are two main types of dietary fiber: Soluble Fiber: Dissolves in water to form a gel-like material. Found in foods like oats, peas, beans, apples, citrus fruits, carrots, barley, and psyllium. Benefits include lowering blood cholesterol and glucose levels. Insoluble Fiber : Does not dissolve in water. Promotes movement through your digestive system and increases stool bulk.
